Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to manual therapy that considers, from a whole-body perspective, how the soft tissues of the body are responding to or affecting changes in the skeletal structure. Based on the osteopathic principle that structure and function are always reciprocally related, treatment involves soft-tissue manipulation, gentle joint mobilization, along with integration of nervous system input, to correct imbalances in structures or forces that may be contributing to pain, loss of function, or illness. By restoring free motion in all structures related to your unique restriction pattern, the body’s innate ability to heal and regulate on its own can be re-established, leading to lasting relief of discomfort and improved movement. An Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (OMP) observes the body as a whole, as one dynamic unit of function, to seek out how and why a patient experiences their symptoms and strives to address the root cause of this dysfunction by following treatment principles based in anatomy and functional motion.

The OMP at Arc is OSTCAN certified, meaning that they have been extensively examined and successfully obtained certification from one of Canada’s most notable associations available to join by the world’s most highly trained osteopathic practitioners. Whether you slept funny and hurt your neck, have been experiencing a chronic ailment, or just want to give your body the care it deserves, Osteopathic treatment is for you.

Registered Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a form of manual therapy that includes the physical manipulation of the soft tissue – muscles and tendons, fascia, and the ligamentous structures of many joints – with the intention of promoting better health and well-being. It is a clinically oriented complimentary healthcare option that can help alleviate the discomfort associated with everyday, occupational, and athletic stresses. Massage Therapy can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions, it reduces muscle tightness and pain, supports recovery from injury, improves circulation, promotes relaxation and relieves stress.

The massage therapists at Arc are Registered Massage Therapists (RMT), meaning they are certified and licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) to provide massage therapy services and possess a profound understanding of anatomy and therapeutic techniques. An RMT will work with you whether you’re looking to unwind and de-stress, seeking relief from chronic pain, need help to improve your posture and mobility, or just looking for a proactive way to connect with and care for your body.

Check out our Practitioners page for more information about our RMTs.

The Pilates Movement Method

The Pilates movement method is a mindful approach to movement that connects the body, mind, and spirit. Developed by Joseph Pilates, this method emphasizes controlled, precise, and flowing movements that build strength and improve flexibility. Pilates is more than just exercise — it’s a complete movement system designed to improve posture, joint mobility, flexibility, balance, and overall functional fitness for every body type.
At its core, Pilates follows nine foundational principles that guide each movement and create a deep awareness of how the body moves and feels:

Concentration – Bringing full attention to each movement cultivates mindfulness and presence.

Control – Every exercise is performed with purpose and precision to prevent injury and build strength.

Centering – The center is the area of the torso from the ribcage to the pelvis, encompassing the abdominal, lower back, hips, and glutes. Recruitment of these muscles is important for stabilization and motion.

Breathing – Coordinating breath with movement enhances oxygen flow, focus, and control.
Flow/Fluidity – Movement of the bones to find an ease and fluid motion throughout the body.

Skeletal Alignment – Skeletal organization in ideal/functional alignment for weight bearing, allowing for efficient and pain free movement.

Precision – Attention to alignment and economical muscle recruitment ensures effectiveness and safety.

Endurance – Consistent practice develops endurance and resilience in both body and mind.

Release – Finding ease within effort by a release of joints and improved length in muscles (flexibility).

Pilates is a comprehensive exercise system for people of all ages and activity levels. It is adaptable and inclusive, it meets you where you are, whether you’re seeking physical fitness, rehabilitation, or a deeper mind-body connection. It supports athletes and dancers enhancing performance, individuals recovering from injury, and anyone wanting to move with more strength, balance, and confidence in daily life.
